About Us

The Back Story

If you are approaching (or already in) retirement, you likely have heard about the "Go-Go Years". They precede the "Slow-Go Years" which are followed by the "No-Go Years". The idea is that shortly after retirement, there is an assumption that you are still young enough to be active and pursue all the things you have dreamed about doing in retirement with vigor and excitement. In the Go-Go Years, you have the strength and energy to take on the world, and you can't wait to get out there!

As you continue to age, however, there is the likelihood that you will begin to slow down. You may not have the same "spring in your step" as you did years ago. Although you may still travel and explore, it may not be at the same pace or with the jam-packed itinerary of years past. These are the Slow-Go Years.

Finally, the No-Go Years describe the time when most extensive travel is replaced with home-based activity. A rocking chair on the front porch may (happily) replace the seat on a commercial aircraft previously used to venture far and wide.

Of course, the time frame in which these different phases set in can vary widely for each of us. There are also a variety of factors that can contribute to each phase. A perfectly healthy person, for example, may enter Slow-Go Years based on financial concerns versus physical degradation. Likewise, a relatively young retiree with millions of dollars in the bank can be thrust into the No-Go Years after an unfortunate accident or surprise diagnosis sidelines their plans.

As for us, we recently entered our Go-Go Years after opting for early retirements in our mid-50's. Quite frankly, we haven't saved the amount of money for retirement that many would suggest necessary. This is especially true considering we haven't really "tightened our belts" and curbed our spending habits after walking away from decent salaries. We have our reasons; and we'll get into all that as we share our journey into the unknown.

And, by the way, we don't use AI to write our blogs or emails... so, for better or for worse, it is just us without the speed and aid of Mr. Roboto, but at least its real!
